I know I just wrote about this topic, but this very interesting development warranted an update.
In a post on the electronista blog today, an interesting story broke regarding Skyhook Wireless, the company that brought WiFi based location services to the iPhone 1.0 & other desktop browsers has release a new Hybrid map positioning service (XPS 2.0) that combines GPS, Cell Tower Positioning and WiFi positioning.
With this location based infrastructure now available to device manufacturers and the low overhead of the operating environment (light client with server processing), location based opt-in marketing will begin to mature. Marketers will need to be ready for this and begin testing strategies by the end of 08.
Skyhook seems to be taking this space very seriously, how many others are just around the corner.
